17th Annual Tourism Challenge Passport Program

From April 22, 2017 to June 2, 2017, Chinatown is proud to welcome tourism professionals to our neighborhood for the 17th annual Tourism Challenge, brought to you by the Vancouver Attractions Group, Tourism Vancouver and the Vancouver Hotel Association.

The Tourism Challenge is an exciting city wide promotion that encourages tourism industry workers to enrich their personal knowledge of this wonderful city. Chinatown is one of the featured neighbourhoods in the challenge. We will be inviting participants to explore Chinatown with a scavenger hunt and photo contest.

Receive your stickers by completing the scavenger hunt, and finding the secret phrase. Solve the riddles below to find the words that make up the phrase. When you find the secret phrase – visit ANY 2 of the 3 sticker stations to collect one sticker from each location. You only need TWO stickers to qualify for the Passport Challenge.

Scavenger Hunt 2017

Clue #1: Tea has thousands of years of history in China. This piece of history has been brought to this store in Vancouver in 1981, claimed to be the “First Authentic Chinese Tea Shop in Vancouver” serving premium tea. You’ll find the first clue located on East Georgia Street. It is one of many that are rich with history and traditions to be shared.
Wed to Fri – 11am to 6pm
Saturday – 11am to 6pm
Sunday – 12pm to 6pm
Monday – 11am – 6pm

Clue #2: Immediately after entering the “Historic Chinatown” under an overpass, you will find the second clue situated in a shop along a street filled with many bikers across a grassy field. This shop is frozen in time; an era before we had iPods with iTunes and Spotify on your phones. This is a special place for those who enjoy being retro enough to listen to music contained in large rubber “CDs”.
Tue to Fri – 12:30pm to 5pm
Saturday – 1pm to 6:30pm
Sunday – 1pm to 5:30pm
Monday – 2:30pm to 6:30pm

Clue #3: The third clue is across the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Chinese Classical Garden and the Chinatown Memorial Monument; a small and cozy food-retail shop serving freshly made home-cooked Italian food for take-out or eat-in (with outdoor seating). Announcing daily specials, soup, and salad, you are sure to have something different every day!
Mon to Thu – 8am to 6pm
Friday – 8am to 8pm
Saturday – 10am to 6pm
